Free the Republic
When the Founders laid the groundwork for the United States, they weren’t creating a system designed to manage every micro-decision of daily life. They built a republic anchored in a simple, revolutionary idea: inherent individual liberty.
The government’s primary function was meant to be the protection of natural rights—life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Fast forward to today, and that simple formula has been smothered under mountains of red tape, bureaucratic permits, invasive taxes, and endless laws.
What was designed as a free republic has transformed into a permission-based society. And it’s time to call it what it is: an infringement on our freedom that directly violates the foundation of America.
1. The “Permission State” vs. Natural Rights
In a truly free society, you have the right to act, innovate, build, and trade so long as you do not infringe upon the rights of others.
Today, however, the default setting of government is prohibition until permitted.
- Starting a Business: Want to start a small business? Pay for a license, wait months for approval, and pay fees before you earn a single dollar.
- Property Rights: Want to build or modify property you fully own? Submit blueprints, pay permit fees, and wait for a bureaucrat to give you permission to use your own land.
- Occupational Licensing: Want to work in dozens of common professions? Submit to state-mandated occupational licensing that exists more to protect established cartels than the public.
When freedom requires a government stamp of approval, it is no longer freedom, it is a privilege granted by the state. The Founders fought a revolution to escape a crown that demanded tribute and permission; they did not intend for us to build our own domestic version of it.
2. Taxation as an Instrument of Control
Taxation was intended to be limited, transparent, and strictly bound by the Constitution. Today, the tax code is thousands of pages of social engineering, wealth redistribution, and compliance traps.
Beyond funding necessary government functions, tax policy is increasingly used to penalize self-reliance and reward compliance with central planning. When hard-working individuals are forced to surrender massive portions of their labor just to navigate a maze of property taxes, income taxes, sales taxes, and regulatory fees, their economic independence is stripped away.
If you don’t truly own the fruits of your labor or the land you hold, your individual sovereignty is compromised.
3. The Unelected Fourth Branch: Bureaucracy
One of the most dangerous departures from the Constitution is the rise of administrative agencies. The Constitution explicitly places all legislative power in Congress—representatives who are directly accountable to the voters.
Today, executive agencies churn out thousands of binding regulations, rules, and mandates every year without a single vote from an elected official. These agencies act as prosecutor, judge, and jury over everyday citizens. This centralization of unelected power directly undermines the system of checks and balances the Founders established to prevent tyranny.
Restoring the American Dream
The American dream wasn’t built on government subsidies, complex compliance checklists, or central planning. It was built on the human spirit—on freedom, risk-taking, self-reliance, and personal responsibility.
Every unnecessary permit, every overreaching regulation, and every punitive tax weakens the fabric of self-governance. If we want to restore the promise of the American Republic, we must demand a return to constitutional limits:
- Dismantle unnecessary regulatory hurdles that stifle small business and individual initiative.
- End the permission-based state and restore property rights and economic liberty.
- Reclaim legislative authority from unelected regulatory agencies.
Freedom isn’t something given to us by the government, it is ours by right. It’s time to take it back.
